Date Idea #1: Go to the Zoo!
Just the thought made you smile, right? The zoo is dirty and smelly and completely unromantic, right? Nope! It’s awesome. And not just because we say so. First of all, zoos are a lot cleaner than they used to be. A lot of them are indoors. And they usually have really great junk food, too. There’s tons of stuff to see, laugh at, and talk about. Crazy animals are always a safe bet for an incredible time. This is one of our favorite first date ideas.

Date Idea #2: Be a Tourist
Everyone loves to go on vacation, and we don’t do it nearly enough. So here’s a date idea: go on vacation in your own city, and impress your date while you’re at it. Check out local tourist attractions, tours, and famous sites. It’ll give you a great opportunity to talk, get to know each other, and you might even see a new side of your city. (Getting lost happens to be a fun, touristy, ice-breaker, too.)

Date Idea #3: Play Master Chef
This is a great one for a night when you just want to stay in. It'll get you both involved (and possibly full of flour—shower, anyone?). Ahem. So just decide on a menu, get a bottle of wine, or whatever you enjoy. Pick up some ingredients, and get cooking! This date idea might be too intimate for a first date, but it's great bonding for young couples. |
Date Idea #4: Jump Out of a Plane
Say what? We told you some of these date ideas wouldn’t be everybody’s cup of tea. This is a date idea more geared to the thrill-seeking demographic. If you’re bold enough, what could possibly be more romantic than falling together through the sky? Just about nothing. This option is expensive and a little dangerous, but we promise: it’s unforgettable. |
Date Idea #5: See a Play
If you’re perceptive, by now you’ve noticed that we’re trying to think of a date idea for everybody. This is invariably the “indoor” couples’ counterpart to date idea #4. But if you can find a fun play, this really is a good idea. You get to talk during intermission, laugh, cry, discuss things, and it’s a lot classier than a movie. (Points!) Disney’s The Lion King and Les Misérables are our favorites.

Date Idea #6: Go Skating
Classic, right? Exactly. Skating is tons of fun, especially if you can find a place with music or some event going on (we can help you find a place). Hold hands, skate around, do spins like on TV (…or don’t, whatever). Slip your hands around her waist, all playful-like, and push her around the rink. (Oh, you two!) Oo, and you have to get hot chocolate after to warm up. Adorable. This is one of our favorite date ideas.

Date Idea #7: Ride a Hot Air Balloon
You want more perfect date ideas? Okay, try this. You and your date find a hot air balloon place, and you have one of the dudes take you up for a ride. (Yep, people actually do this.
What, it's true!) Okay, so you might not have a hot air balloon place near your house, but we can help you find one. And just imagine. The two of you, thousands of feet in the air, looking out over the world in total silence. These rides aren't cheap (usually a couple hundred) but they make for a memory that truly and absolutely lasts a lifetime. |
Date Idea #8: Have a Picnic
We know you've heard this one before. But it's worth repeating. For one thing, it's inexpensive. (Leave #7 to the blue bloods, right. Pft.)
And it really is romantic. There are two things to consider: what ya pack and where to go. Quiet grassy parks, fountains, and mountainsides are the obvious choices for location. And for food, forget Gordon Ramsey. The point is to have fun! So just make something simple—crackers and cheese with wine, sandwiches, or a chocolaty dessert. And if that still sounds like too much work, just pick up something for take-out!

Date Idea #9: Relax at a Nordic Spa
Our friends south of the border might not be familiar with this one. A nordic spa (also known as a thermal spa) is a therapeutic relaxation center. A what? It's a big place with a bunch of warm pools, hot tubs, eucalyptus steam rooms, saunas, outdoor fireplaces, and relaxation areas. Nordic spas are places of quiet serenity and relaxation. Imagine soft spa music playing as you sink deeply into a hot bubbling pool, steam rising above you, as you look out over a rocky valley in the distance. Date Idea #10: Bowling and Ice Cream
Perfect dates aren't about what you do. They're about who you're with! But since you're making plans, this classic idea never fails. (Unless you really screw it up.) The idea behind this two-part plan is that first you have fun with the bowling—getting you're competitive side on, laughing, screwing around... you know, all that stuff. And after you're all like "wow, that was fun! what next?" You head over to the old dairy bar to pick up sundaes. This gives you a chance to hang out and talk (which really is the most important part of any date). It's a great, affordable option for an everyday evening. And it just goes to show that any idea can be romantic—in the end, it's all about you. |
